The
first step in the armature installation process is to gain access
to the internal assembly of the wiper motor. The internal components
of the wiper motor are shielded with an aluminum cover. The cover
is secured with a metal strap, which is indicated by the red arrow.
Pry this downward to release the secur-
ing clip.
With
the securing clip released, the cover can be removed with a simple
pull.
Remove
the screws securing the brush assembly (indicated by the red arrows).
For
Bus models, removal of the brush assembly can be achieved while
the motor assemlbly is still mounted in the vehicle. For Beetle
models, the entire assembly may have to be removed to allow for
adequate access.
With
the brush assembly re-
moved, the armature can then be withdrawn from the motor. Grasp
the commutator between your thumb and index finger and tug slightly.
If the armature is being a little stubborn, use a
flat-tipped screwdriver to pry it free.
